LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN ...

Dragon's Back Trail, Escape from bustling Hong Kong City.

5:15:00 PM

If you look carefully into the map of Hong Kong, you'll find many islands surrounding, and tourists mainly only travel around Mainland, Hong Kong Island and Lantau Island.

Hong Kong is well known as a bustling city, and the shopping heaven for most of the girls. But on this trip, I finally made a move out of the hectic Kowloon to the tranquil trail located in Hong Kong Island itself.

Dragon's back has a beautiful coastal scenery and it's easily accessible from the city. The name of this trail comes from the path that connecting Wan Cham Shan and Shek O Peak, stretching vertically over D'Aguilar Peninsula and undulates between these hill tops, which reminiscent the shape of a dragon's backbone.

Along the trail you will get to see stunning views of Shek O, Tai Long Wan, Stanley, Tai Tam, and the South China Sea.

Getting to Dragon's Back Trail :

To the starting point - Take MTR train to Shau Kei Wan Station and Exit A to Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminus. Take bus 9 or the minibus with the sign "Shek O" next to the bus terminus. Disembark at "To Tei Wan", Shek O Road.

From the end point - Take the minibus or a taxi to Shau Kei Wan Station to catch the MTR or other public transportation.

Average hiking time : Approx. 4 hours
Distance : Approx. 8.5km
Difficulty : Moderately difficult

There are no replenishing stations along the way, so you might need to pack up with food and water. You are advised to bring along a cap or hat in the summer, and a windbreaker during winter season.

Look for this sign once you disembark from the bus at "To Tei Wan", this is where the starting point. If you look in to opposite site, you will find the staircase To Tei Wan Village.

Half way from the starting point and before reaching Dragon's Back Trail, there's the view of Stanley across the Tai Tam Bay.

About 20-30 mins climb, you will see this sign showing the way up to Dragon's Back Trail.

Half way starting from here, you will be on top of the hill to continue the pathway stretching along.

The glory of it all is that you're so close to the city, but could hardly feel further away. However, I heard that the weather is changing dramatically on top of the hill, so you might want to prepare for the rain :)
